Another week has flown by, and I had every intention of posting, but didn't get to it! We're busy around here, but it is a fun, summer-y kind of busy that we like. Spending time with friends, picnics, family, yardwork, swimming...and we're even still squeezing in a little bit of school two days a week! The kids are 8 lessons in to their math books for next year, which I know doesn't sound like much, but knowing that we've gotten a head start is a huge encouragement. I'm getting excited about the new school year, but don't have my supplies yet to get much started on the planning.
Maddie celebrated her 12th birthday on Sunday. The celebration this year was fairly low-key, although she did get a celebration at the lake with cousins, and one here with G&G Clark. She's anxiously awaiting a sleepover with friends in a few weeks when summer camps and travelling are done!
We watched some friends kids last weekend so they could get away. They've got 1 year old twins, which we watched during the day Saturday. So much fun!! Although I can say that because we only had them for about 5 hours:)
Then we had their older two overnight Saturday night. That called for a campfire! Hot dogs & S'mores!
This 4th of July is cool and rainy. I was actually in jeans and a sweatshirt twice this week! Last night we were able to get out to see fireworks. Tonight we get to watch them from the comfort of our deck. Our neighborhood puts on quite a nice show! And there is no fighting the crowds & traffic after. Last night we got to experience Springfield's finest as the two cars in front of us got in a little fender-bender (because neither wanted to let the other one go first) and started fighting. Colorful words everywhere...and people not involved adding in their two cents. We used it as a teaching experience for the kids...selflessness, patience, and humility...even when someone else is doing wrong against you!
We're loving having Matt home today and are looking forward to fun with family tonight!
