Have I mentioned that I love home-schooling so that we can travel with Matt? Sometimes when the kids are rowdy while traveling I feel badly that we are all there while Matt is officially supposed to be working. He assures me, though, that he loves having us there and would rather we be there than not. I worked hard this trip to keep the kids busy while he was working in the morning. They did a lot of quiet reading while Matt was getting ready for the day. Things went more smoothly on this trip than on others, so we are learning! 8 days in hotel rooms can be a bit much for all of us involved.
Our first few days were spent in D.C. This time we visited the Bureau of Printing and Engraving...
And then the zoo...with what seemed like about every school group in the city of D.C. It was craziness!
But the panda bear was fun to see...and we had fun watching the lions, up close and personal with a zoom lens!
The kids had just watched National Treasure 2, so they wanted to visit the Library of Congress. We were all so tired that we didn't take the tour, but just headed back to the hotel. Maybe next time.
On our way out of the city Friday, we stopped at the National Air and Space Museum Annex. This houses Braden's favorite jet- the SR-71- and the space shuttle Discovery. They also had lots of jet engines, which was great for Braden to see since he just got done studying and reporting about jet engines. Very cool!
President Obama was speaking at a high school just one block from our hotel on Friday morning. Unfortunately, not sightings!
I'm thankful for God's safe-keeping while we rode the metro in and out of the city, made train transfers and walked through new parts of the city, without getting lost or feeling like we were out of place.
