Riding the metro...
This was a learning experience for all of us! By the end of the week we were pros...even doing train transfers and everything! We hit rush hour on several occasions and wow...you can fit a lot of people in those train cars! We only had one snag when somehow one of us got through the turnstyle without paying...don't know how that happened since we all put our tickets in, but our credit card was flagged that we didn't pay for that trip so we could no longer buy fare using the credit card. We would have had to go to some place we had no idea about to fix the $2 problem, so we opted to pay cash the rest of the time and let them keep our $7 ticket. Hopefully the metro police don't come after us!
The kids were intrigued of why everyone in suits with briefcases were running everywhere. I think they thought they were part of an action movie and have since been pretend playing related to their new experiences in the busy city. We learned very quickly how to stay out of the way of those business guys who were trying to catch a train!
At one stop, we rode an almost 200 ft tall escalator to the street level. It was almost like a roller coaster ride! I guess there are a few other escalators that are over 200 ft. long in D.C...we may have to scope them out next time. I wouldn't want to be on one of those during rush hour when everyone is pushing and running everywhere.
Even with all of our metro rides, we still ended up walking a lot. I'm certain that the first 2 days, the kids thought we were torturing them with all of the walking we did. Any chance we got, we plopped down on benches!
The kids forgot their cameras, so they each took turns with mine throughout the week. Many were pictures of trees and odd things along the sides of the road, but Kinslee got a good one of me and Maddie.
This one was at one of our lunch breaks. Matt was trying to make a business call with three kids around him. I'm so thankful we could do this trip with Matt...an experience we'll never forget!
