The 5th day was our Cozumel stop. We woke up, went to get our coffee, and found towel animals on all the beach chairs. The housekeeping staff put these cute little animals on our bed each night, but they all had a party at the pool on the last port day!
We got off the ship right away that morning and headed through the port.
Since Cozumel is a very safe city, we explored on our own. We took a taxi to Chankanaab National Park to do snorkeling and have some beach time. I was so wanting the kids to see a big iguana and they finally did here! This one was kind of nasty looking and had no tail, but we saw some colorful orange iguanas with spikes on their backs. Yikes!
Isn't it beautiful? And no people! Perfect! There were people there and it got busier around lunch time, but that was about the time we left.
A pretty lagoon inside the park. There were several iguanas sunning themselves here.
We all got our snorkel equipment. We laughed harder on that morning, watching everyone gear up and walk around in flippers than we did the whole week!
Kinslee, once again, did not like the snorkeling. She scraped her ankle as soon as she got in the water, so I got back out with her and we just rested on the beach while Matt, Braden and Maddie snorkeling. They feed the fish at this park, so when you get in the water, the fish swarm you, thinking you'll give them food. It's a little strange, but so fun!
Kinslee being Kinslee.
A cute crab on the rocks. He was about 6-8 inches big.
Seriously...look at that water! I love the Caribbean Sea!
After we were done on the beach, we walked along the rocks and explored all the tide pools. Sea urchins and colorful little fish filled them.
After we were done at the park, we took a taxi to the San Miguel to do some shopping. It was way harder to shop in these cities with three kids than it was with just Matt and me last time we were in Mexico. I tired of it pretty quickly. I liked to know what we wanted before we stopped in a store. And the kids didn't know what they wanted. Everyone showing the kids their goods, wanting to braid their hair, have them try on a dress, or make them a bracelet got tiring very quickly! We walked some of the side streets where people's houses were and it was so pretty and peaceful. This was just one of the doors that I loved!
There were all kinds of painted fences and walls. Colors everywhere!
It was probably about 75 degrees that day. Our taxi driver said it was cold. He had on a winter jacket and said he had slept in several layers the night before because it had gotten down to 60. Rough life!
This was a pretty sight towards evening when we were back on the ship. Loved that light shining through the clouds onto the water!
The last day on the boat, Saturday, was very low-key. We were headed back north so the air was cool...about 65 and breezy. The kids would have been swimming in that temperature if it were the beginning of the trip, but after feeling 85 degrees, decided it was too cold to swim! We hung out in the marketplace and played games most of the day.
We were so ready to be done with the cruise by Sunday and as we were recovering, we weren't sure we'd rush to take another one. Now that we're recovered and have been showing pictures to people, we remember that we had so much fun and we'd definitely do it again someday!
Ahhh...it feels good to have those pictures shared and documented for our yearly blog book. Now I need to choose pictures for our living room wall and make a photo book. One step done!
